-

THE SCOTTISH Salmon Company (SSC) welcomed Argyll and Bute MP Brendan O’Hara to its newly-developed Cairndow processing and filleting plant on Friday January 19.

Mr O’Hara joined Craig Anderson, chief executive of the SSC, to meet employees at the factory, which is situated at the head of Loch Fyne.

The SSC is a significant local employer with around 80 people employed at the processing centre and 160 full-time staff employed across 20 sites in Argyll and Bute.

Exported

The company produces more than 25,000 tonnes of sea loch salmon annually, which is exported to 26 countries worldwide. Around half of SSC salmon is produced in Argyll and Bute.

The company was joined by other local food and drink producers at the ‘Taste of Argyll and Bute’ event, hosted by Mr O’Hara at the House of Commons on Tuesday. The event showcased Argyll food and drink to MPs from across the UK.

Team

Speaking before the House of Commons event, Mr O’Hara said: ‘I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Scottish Salmon Company’s state-of-the-art salmon processing facility at Cairndow and meeting the team.

‘Eleanor, Duchess of Argyll, and I are very much looking forward to welcoming The Scottish Salmon Company and other fantastic Argyll and Bute producers to the House of Commons on Tuesday January 30. ‘A Taste of Argyll and Bute’ will be a unique opportunity to showcase their products, which are amongst the best in the world.’

Pleasure

Craig Anderson, chief executive of The Scottish Salmon Company, said: ‘It was a pleasure to welcome Brendan to our Cairndow processing facility.

‘Argyll and Bute is an important area of business for us, with about half of our Scottish salmon being produced in the region.’
