SAFL Premier Two Lochgilphead Red Star 6 Duntocher Hibs 2 RED STAR welcomed Duntocher Hibernian to the Joint Campus last Saturday as they looked to kick start 2018 with a win following a draw with Port Glasgow OBU in their previous match.

The home side didn’t get off to the best of starts and were sloppy with their passing, resulting in Hibs opening the scoring after six minutes.

A poor pass out of defence was intercepted and the Hibs wing- er got the cross in to a striker who met the ball with a well-timed header to give his side the lead.

Red Star upped their game with Aaron Moore and Lee MacLean driving forward from midfield.

The equaliser came after a quick attacking move. From the right channel, Innes Meikle laid the ball off into the path of Colin Weir who beat the keeper with a left-footed finish.

Despite the even score, Star once again fell behind after a mistimed challenge from Naisby gave referee Jimmy Litster no option but to point to the spot. The Hibs forward stepped up and made no mistake by sending Star keeper Pollock the wrong way.

Excellent skill

It didn’t take the hosts long to get back level after Kieran Moore showed excellent skill to drive in from the left channel and place the ball into the bottom corner with a curling shot to level the score.

Star were keen to press on and got themselves in front just before the break with more good interplay between Kieran Moore and Innes Meikle. This time it was Meikle who finished past the keeper into the bottom corner, putting Star 3-2 up at half time.

With Star attacking the Glasgow end in the second half, the home side began to move the ball much sharper.

Duntocher were struggling to cope with the movement and Kieran Moore added his second goal of the afternoon with a powerful effort which sailed low into the bottom corner to make it 4-2 early on in the second half.

With the Star management team boasting a strong subs bench, they were able to add fresh legs as the second half progressed with Ian McGuinness, Martin Bonar, Gregor Peacock and Fraser McFarlane all getting valuable game time under their belts.

Gregor Peacock could have added to the tally but his shot came off the post before Ian McGuinnes had an effort disallowed for offside.

Kieran Moore competed his hat-trick as he broke away from the Hibs defence and finished with a classy lob over the Hibs keeper. Moore added his fourth goal of the game and Star’s sixth with another fine finish, to secure a 6-2 win.

Star’s next game will be away to title rivals Castlemilk OBC on Saturday February 3.
