Oban Live: Argyll’s largest live music event back for third year

-

There’s a new kid on the block that’s standing out on Scotland’s list of impressive events. We are talking about Oban Live, the biggest open-air live music concert in Argyll. 2018 will be the event’s third year, taking place at Mossfield Stadium, Oban, on June 8 and 9, and there’s a whopper of a line-up in store too. Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to Mossfield Stadium to see a stream of incredible acts including Skerryvore, Skipinnish, Blazin’ Fiddles, Heron Valley, and Sharon Shannon Band (featuring Michael McGoldrick and Susan O’Neill). Acoustic folk-rockers Hermitage Green, one of Ireland’s hottest bands, are heading over to Oban Live for their first outdoor festival in Scotland. The band has fans across the globe thanks to their captivating and unforgettable live sets. Also heading over from Ireland are the hugely popular folk duo Hudson Taylor. They have recently released their brand new EP ‘Feel it again’ and are not long back from touring the US having already completed a sold out European and UK tour earlier in the year. An all-star line-up of 24 top names in the Scottish traditional music industry will also come together in an exclusive collaboration named ‘Sons of Argyll’. Performing on Friday June 8, the project will pay homage to late inspirational figures from the region that played a key role in the lives and music of the performers involved. The collaboration will include musicians from Tide Lines, Skipinnish, Skerryvore, Blazin’ Fiddles, Trail West and Gunna Sound, as well as Mòd Gold Medallists, world-class pipers, Oban Gaelic Choir and many more. Local Oban talent will be hitting the stage too including Chunks, who celebrate their 20th anniversary this year, Oban High School Pipe Band and the winning act of the local Oban Unsigned competition. All this, plus an entertaining Fringe Programme in the town certainly makes Oban the place to be June 8 and 9, 2018. More acts still to be announced.
