Tarbert close the gap with win over Cardross

-

SAFL Premier Division 2 Tarbert 5 Cardross 0 TARBERT welcomed Cardross to Cil Andreis for a crucial ‘six pointer’ on Saturday April 14.

The away side arrived late and were unable to field a full team.

Tarbert still had a job to do as they looked to open a gap between themselves and the bottom club in the league.

The opening 20 minutes of the match left the home side frustrated as a number of careless final balls and missed chances kept the game level at 0-0.

Captain Talbot stepped up soon after to drive a shot low into the corner from the edge of the box and ease some of the tension Tarbert had been feeling.

Further chances came and went in the first half with the away keeper producing a couple of fine saves to deny Campbell and MacKinnon. The latter was not to be denied his goal though, and he doubled Tarbert’s advantage going into half time.

The second half followed in a similar vein to the first with Tarbert totally in command without really slipping out of first gear.

Goals followed from Scott, with a free kick that somehow evaded the away keeper, MacKay and MacKinnon as Tarbert cruised through the second half.

There was even time for captain Talbot to put his name forward for miss of the season with a penalty that the keeper saved well. It wasn’t a game that will live long in the memory but Tarbert claimed the crucial three points they craved to climb a place in the table.

This week Tarbert are at home to FC Argyle.
