Cycling bonzana comes to Kilberry

-

KEEN cyclists across Argyll will now have the chance to take part in the first Kilberry Loop sportive.

The event, approved by British Cycling and organised by the Mid Argyll Tri and Cycle Club, will take place on Saturday August 11 with an 8.30am start at the Isthmus in Tarbert. Registration will open at 7.30am.

Entrants will head east towards the village and then north on the A83 before turning left at the junction and onto the single track B8024.

There will be a 2km climb before a fast descent into Achahoish along the shores of Loch Caolisport, with breathtaking views over Jura, Islay and Gigha.

There will be snacks available at the halfway station, with the cycle then continuing through Kilberry, heading east, with some sharp climbs and sweeping descents.

The coast of West Loch Tarbert will then be in view, past Tarbert Golf Club onto the A83 and back to the village of Tarbert.

The event is described as a sportive, a non-competitive event which is suitable for road bikes.

Organiser John Hardie said: ‘We are delighted to announce a new cycling challenge, the inaugural Kilberry Loop Cycle Sportive. The Mid Argyll Tri and Cycle Club is an allinclusive club for athletes and sporting enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.

‘We wish to promote fun, fellowship and friendship with a dash of competition. The Kilberry Loop is a favourite route of the members.’
