Another sad loss on A83

-

WE DON’T know the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a biker near Lochgair last Saturday.

But what we do know is every sunny day brings out bikers. And too often by the afternoon of these sunny days sirens are wailing around Loch Fyne.

Every road user needs to be alert to the presence of bikers and drive sensibly. The same applies to motorcyclists. If we all use the loaf, perhaps the sound of sirens will be replaced by the sound of silence – punctuated by the odd Kawasaki. Sir, It is a matter of much regret Ardrishaig Community Council is not currently constituted as such because not enough people came forward for nomination as community councillors.

Community councils exist to be a voice for the interests of the local community and to represent the views of local residents, whether to Argyll and Bute Council, Scottish Canals or to and with other Mid Argyll community councils.

The community council can act as a force to be reckoned with, a pressure group in the interests of Ardrishaig village and its residents, particularly vital in these times of constrained funding resources and Brexit-related uncertainty.

None of this, however, works if the community council is not quorate.

So this is an appeal for nominations for the by-election. Nominations must be lodged with the returning officer at Kilmory by 4pm on May 24 2018.

There is not much time left to save Ardrishaig Community Council.

Mary MacCallum Sullivan; Catherine Bowe; Arthur Barclay, Ardrishaig community councillors.
