Thought for the week

- With Marilyn Shedden

THERE was a great atmosphere on the bus to Glasgow as passengers greeted each other in the warmth of a beautiful Argyll morning.

We chatted with Nancy and Davy and Gordon, and enjoyed the brief conversations with others we knew.

The journey went quickly as we enjoyed the magnificent scenery.

The trees are really greening up due the most welcome sunshine and the blossom trees are daring to show a bit of colour.

We all dispersed at Glasgow and went our separate ways, each to deal with our own business.

The day went well and it was a great novelty to eat outside in the April sunshine and enjoy a glass of wine, as we didn’t need to worry about driving home.

At the bus station, we met up again with Gordon and Davy and exchanged the stories of our city break.

Alison and Neil were seeing off a friend and realised they knew half the people on the bus, so the farewells became a bit of fun for us all.

The banter with Charlie the driver made the journey go quickly and soon we were coming over the brae at Ronachan. That’s when I feel I’m ‘home’.

The sun was setting over the paps of Jura and bathed all of Kintyre in a beautiful rosy glow as the sea birds drifted homeward lazily to find their rest.

I thought of my home town, which I love dearly and am always glad to visit, but as we left the crowds and the noise and the traffic, I felt again a deep sense of something beyond myself in Argyll.

Maybe this cradle of Christianity has a special place in God’s heart too.
