Clachan Primary are Sumdog spring maths champions
CLACHAN Primary School delivered a strong win in the 2018 Argyll and Bute spring maths contest, organised by Edinburgh-based education technology company Sumdog.
Taking place on Friday March 16, the week-long contest saw 2,107 pupils from 110 classes at 51 schools in Argyll and Bute competing to win a coveted trophy and the title of Argyll and Bute Sumdog spring maths champions for 2018.
The pupils worked individually in their class groups to answer up to 1,000 maths questions each over the duration of the contest using Sumdog’s innovative online learning system.
Clachan Primary School emerged as champions with a winning score of 841 correct answers.
Argyll and Bute Council’s policy lead for education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: ‘What a great achievement. These talented youngsters have fought off stiff competition from 50 other schools across Argyll and Bute to win this prestigious maths award.
‘Clachan Primary School might only have eight pupils but what it might lack in size, it certainly makes up for in brains. Well done to everyone involved.’
Sumdog, a highly engaging learning and intervention numeracy platform which aims to close the poverty related attainment gap, is now used in 70 per cent of all schools in Scotland.
Sumdog CEO Andrew Hall said: ‘We’re delighted to have had so many schools from across Argyll and Bute compete in the contest.
‘On behalf of everyone at Sumdog, I’d like to express my huge congratulations to all pupils at Clachan School on becoming the Argyll and Bute spring maths contest champions.’
