Crowning glory for Donna and Ele

-

THE LADIES’ section at Lochgilphead Golf Club were rewarded at the weekend for their hard work at recruiting new members, with 12 ladies coming out to compete in the Coronation Foursomes on Sunday April 29.

The competition was resurrected last year after many years of absence, and Donna McKellar and Ele Hunter, who were last year’s winners, were pleased to defend their title and win again this year with 36 points.

The enjoyable day was followed up by some sociable drinks in the clubhouse thanks to Anka and Hans.

The gents also had their turn, competing in the Dunlop Stableford across the weekend.

Saturday April 28 saw a close finish with Steven Colligan returning a card with a fantastic 42 points beating Liam Scott by one point.

Unfortunately, Steven didn’t play on Sunday and Liam was overtaken by Robbie Wilson, who returned a combined score of 74 points over the two days to become this year’s winner, beating Liam by one point.

Enough points

Jim Hunter also played well on day two, returning a score of 35 points. Unfortunately, he didn’t have enough points from day one to join this score.

The juniors played for the Wilson Cup and the Easter trophy with Andrew Innis scoring 18 points in the nine-hole Easter Trophy, and 39 points in the Wilson Cup to bag both titles. Kern McKellar followed closely in both competitions with a score of 16 in the Easter Trophy and 38 in the Wilson Cup.

This week there will be another two-round competition with the gents playing for the Ann Williams Trophy.

The ladies will compete for the Centenary Cup on Saturday May 5, and the juniors play for the May medal on Friday May 4.
