Scottish Series embraces the Year of Young People at Tarbert

With 2018 being the Year of the Young People (YOYP), Tarbert Harbour Authority, working together with Tarbert Loch Fyne Yacht Club, Clyde Cruising Club and other organisati­ons, have put together a fun-filled, family-friendly day on Saturday May 26 giving those aged eight to 23 the opportunit­y to get out on the water.

As well as sailing and SUP-board taster sessions, local RIB tour provider Kenny MacNab will be running tours throughout the day with 10 free spaces for youngsters on his boat, Fynal Fling.

Taeping

Ocean Sailing Scotland’s Clipper 60 ocean racing yacht Taeping, which has circumnavi­gated the world four times, will also be in Tarbert for the weekend. Ocean Sailing has very generously offered two free trips for those aged 16 to 23 years to witness the racing first hand – a rare and exciting opportunit­y!

Funky Chicken

For those under eight, children’s entertaine­r and face painter the Funky Chicken will be positioned on the recreation area. Boat building activities and workshops from the Archipelag­o Folk School are also taking place.

While the youngsters make a splash, there will be food, drinks and live music, including The Coaltown Daisies and

Campbeltow­n’s Matt McAllister, in the marquee to keep the parents and adults amused!

Sailing taster sessions

Come and have a go at dinghy sailing at the local yacht club’s RYA ‘Push The Boat Out’ event.

During May, RYA Scotland is promoting getting out on the water with events being held all over the country. Tarbert Toppers at Tarbert Loch Fyne Yacht Club are getting involved too.

Anyone from the age of eight can enjoy sailing Optimists and Toppers during the Scottish Series regatta weekend. Qualified instructor­s and regular young sailors will be on hand to help.

There is no need to book and those interested can come down to the club at Battery Point, by the ferry slip, with a change of clothes or a wetsuit and you’ll get out sailing! For further informatio­n, contact Emma on emma@ pedenassoc­iates.com

SUP boarding sessions

Stand-up-paddle boarding is the latest craze in paddle-sports. Give it a try yourself, with guidance and instructio­n from Kayak Majik. Three free one-hour sessions are available to those aged eight and over at noon, 2pm and 4pm, departing from the yacht club. Fynal Fling Adventure RIB Tours Witness the yacht racing on Loch Fyne first hand on a fast RIB ride! Scheduled trips will be departing from the marina throughout the day for £10p/p.
