Sporting pupils go for gold

-

CHILDREN from Dalintober Primary School have received a much sought-after Gold School Sport Award from sportscotland.

Pupils have been taking part in a wide range of sports clubs and activities over the past few months in a bid to gain the special award.

Some of the clubs children took part in included badminton, volleyball, football, dance, powerhoop and jogging.

A young leaders multi-sports club and a virtual games breakfast club were also established.

Argyll and Bute Council’s policy lead for education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly, said: ‘This is a great achievement and one which the pupils and teachers should be very, very proud of.

‘The sportscotland awards are a great way to get young people active and encourage them to take part in more physical activity. Children are put at the forefront of the decision-making and plan sport in their school, with many of Dalintober’s clubs organised and run by the pupils themselves.

‘Physical activity is extremely important for our young people. Not only does it promote balanced mental and physical growth, but it teaches children important life skills such as leadership and teamwork. Well done Dalintober Primary.’

The award was presented to pupils by Lorna Jackson from sportscotland at a special ceremony in the school last week.

Former pupils Ryan Shields and Calum Ellis were also invited to attend the ceremony after being instrumental towards the school gaining the award.
