Talking newspaper returns home

-

ARGYLL Talking Newspapers is home after four months away.

The charity resumed recording the major Argyll newspapers in its spiritual home of Ardrishaig Church Hall on Friday April 27.

Argyll Talking Newspapers chairman Robin Finlay explained: ‘Ardrishaig Church Hall has been undergoing a major refurbishment including disability access, new toilets, repainting and a new kitchen.

‘We use the hall at least twice a week as our recording studio so losing it for up to four months presented us with a few problems.

‘Just as we were becoming anxious about finding a suitable place to record and store our equipment, Scottish Canals offered to provide office and storage space.’

Argyll Talking News- papers has been providing a recording service for 32 years.

The service is principally for those who are blind or have visual or other impairment which prevents them from holding or reading a paper.

Edited recordings of the newspaper are read, recorded and duplicated on to USB sticks then posted to the listeners. The service is free and this includes, if necessary, a listening box for use with the USB stick.

Mr Finlay added: ‘We are extremely grateful for the very generous assistance Scottish Canals provided.

‘They could not have been more helpful and as a result of their help all our listeners received their regular recordings of their favourite Argyll newspapers.’

Anyone who might qualify for a recording of their local Argyll paper is asked to get in touch with Robin Finlay on 01546 602718.
