Cairndow plots path to a bright future
A NEW Cairndow Community Council is in place - so it is time for action.
There are ambitious plans for projects including a new pontoon serving the village and a path to complete the link to Clachan and Loch Fyne Oysters.
An open community session at Cairndow Village Hall on Friday May 18 offered residents the chance to have their say on a revised community action plan.
The original plan, dating from 2015, contained a range of priorities covering everything from transport links to tourism infrastructure.
Debbie Donald, conEDUCATION venor of Cairndow Community Council, said: ‘We had a steady flow of people throughout the evening and it went really well.
‘We were delighted with the turnout and received fantastic feedback and ideas big and small, and were particularly pleased with the input from our young residents.
‘We plan to make the Young Person’s Agenda a standing item at every community council meeting to enable us to continue building input from young people.’
Ideas so far suggested include traffic calming measures through the village, a programme to control Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam, a community shop, a health clinic in the hall, community gym, dog bins for the village and a community minibus.
Slightly further advanced are the pontoon and path projects and a preferred pontoon site has been pinpointed near the site of a former jetty.
The path, which will link to a section between Clachan and Achadunan completed last year, is intended to rise up from Cairndow village, across the A83 above the hall before following a field dyke running parallel to the main road, about 100 yards above it, then climbing down the slope to the old road at Achadunan.
Debbie continued: ‘We will collate the feedback and have a summary sheet available for the next community council meeting on Wednesday June 13 in Cairndow Village Hall.’
