Fun and scrambles at Lochgilphead Golf Club

-

LOCHGILPHEAD Golf Club held the first of this season’s fun Texas Scrambles on Thursday May 17 with a tremendous turnout.

There was much laughter as the 27 players competed in nine teams.

The MacKinnon family of Margaret, David and Liam won the competition and the longest drives for ladies, gents and juniors.

The other prizes up for grabs were nearest the pin at the ninth and Donna McKellar picked this up for the ladies, while her team-mate Jim Hunter picked up the prize for the gents.

Supper, drinks and chat followed in the clubhouse and were enjoyed by everyone. Special thanks go to Jenny and Isobel for serving it.

Friday saw the juniors play for the Bookers Trophy and it was good to see Euan Gilmour winning his first trophy this season with 15 points. Saturday saw a busy field of gents competing for their May medal which was won by Peter Sinclair with 62 strokes, beating Jamie O’May by two strokes. The ladies played their second round of the Charity Cup and Ele Hunter won with 20 points for nine holes with Donna McKellar in second place, also with 20 points. On a wet Sunday the gents played for the John Paterson trophy but, with a much reduced field of play, the winner was Keith Cowan with a nett 70, beating Ruaridh Brown by one stroke.

This week sees the gents compete for the Kilcolm Cup on Saturday followed by ladies and gents in the Ping mixed doubles on Sunday while the juniors have a nine-hole eclectic round – one on Friday May 25 at 4.30pm followed by round two at 11am on Saturday May 26.
