Charity cyclists pedal to beat prostate cancer

-

Charity cyclists are set to pass through Mid Argyll as part of a gruelling 300-mile charity ride through Scotland.

Organised by building supplies company Keyline, the ride, between the firm’s depots in Dumfries and Inverness, will take place over three days and started yesterday (Thursday June 7).

After a 9am start in Dumfries, the riders headed to Ardrossan on a 96-mile route via Carsphairn, Maybole and Ayr.

Today (Friday June 8), it was a ferry trip from Ardrossan to Brodick on Arran, then across to Lochranza to catch the boat to Claonaig on the Kintyre peninsula.

From Claonaig later today, the plan is to set off on another 96-mile leg to Oban, via Tarbert and Lochgilphead, and the riders should be passing through Mid Argyll in the afternoon.

The final day tomorrow will involve a hilly 108-mile ride to the finish line at the Keyline branch in Inverness.

A group of more than 30 cyclists hopes to complete the journey, with others who are joining for part of the challenge doing either a day or a section of one of the routes. Keyline staff, suppliers and customers are all involved to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

The target is to beat the sum raised last year in aid of the charity.
