Tarbert golf club ladies’ open and Dodies cup

-

Almost 30 ladies arrived at Glenralloch on Sunday June 17 for the West Loch Shores Ladies’ Open played over an excellent course in a mixture of overhead conditions.

In the scratch section Ann May from Arran took the honours with an excellent two over par 68 having shot equal halves of 34. Ann’s score has been the best from a lady for many years at Glenralloch. In second place was Margaret MacKinnon from Lochgilphead on 75 and Tarbert’s own Heather Brownlie on 81.

It was a closely fought affair with Margaret MacKinnon in third place being edged out by Helen Samborek by the better inward half on 40 points. It was a delighted Angela Vernel who took the trophy home with 41 stableford points.

The ladies of the club were extremely grateful to Bill Young for his help and assistance during the day and to Malky and Emily of West Loch Shores for their sponsorship of the event.

A disappointing turnout of seven members took part in Dodies Cup but the bonus was returning member James Smyth taking the cup ‘home’ to Furnace following his net 62 and 0.5 reduction in his handicap. Another returning member Jimmy Litster shot 68 gross following halves of 36 and 32 for the best gross score of the day.

There is no gents’ competition this Saturday but the following weekend sees the first and second round of the club championship takes place.

All knock-out draws have taken place so the club requests that ties are played on time. The course will be closed from 10am-4pm, Friday June 29, for the CalMac outing to take place. Thanks to Calum McLean, the club is hosting the annual CalMac outing which will give the club a boost. If anyone has a few hours to spare then Graham will welcome a hand to present the course in as good a detail as possible for thye visitors.

The course is in great condition and the club hopes to see as many supporting the competitions as possible.
