Open success in the sun

-

Saturday July 7 saw 55 players take to the course to compete for the title of Lochgilphead Open winner 2018.

David Robertson from Inveraray was the leader in the clubhouse from early in the day with a three under par score of 61 but as the day progressed he slipped to third place as Steven Colligan came in with a 60 followed by Ali Proven, now known as The Bandit, with a fantastic 59 to win the prestigious title of Lochgilphead gents’ open winner.

The scratch competition was also a closely-fought competition. Robbie Wilson led on this early in the day with a five over par score of 69 and thought he was on the money until both Ryan McGlynn and Adrian Angus came in with scores of 67, Adrian, however, had a better inward nine making him the scratch winner.

Also up for grabs was the senior trophy for the gents in the over-50 category and youthful looking Jim Hunter was the winner of this with a net 61.

Bottles of whisky were the spoils for getting the longest drive and nearest the pin and these were won by Alistair MacVicker and Roo Marshall respectively.

The day was a great success and many thanks go to the sponsors for making it possible. The golfers enjoyed a lovely buffet before main sponsor David Cameron of David Cameron Joiners and Builders presented the prizes in the clubhouse and posed for a photograph with the day’s winners. Thanks also go to the other many sponsors, Ceilidhs Homet, Empire Travel Lodge, JMK Electrical and Cowan and McBrayne Builders.

This year’s captain, David Sinclair, closed the proceedings by thanking the sponsors, all the volunteers and staff who worked hard to present the course in fantastic condition for the day and the ladies’ section for their assistance in the bar and catering departments.

The next open competition is the ladies’ open on August 26 when the gents will return the favour by assisting on the day.
