Rugby youths score big at the Mid Argyll Dalriada
Teams and players from all over Argyll and Bute mustered in Lochgilphead for the rugby Dalriada festival on Sunday March 3.
Seventeen teams and around 170 young players gathered for the festival with teams from Islay, Kintyre, Oban, Taynuilt, Mull and Lochaber joining Mid Argyll in Lochgilphead.
Allan Wright, Argyll and Bute rugby development officer, said: ‘With 10 years of being involved in these tournaments in Argyll, I can safely say that Sunday’s was by far one of our best ever festivals.
‘As always, Mid Argyll were fantastic hosts and provided us with a fantastic playing surface at the Ropework. Despite the weekend’s poor weather, we were in luck without a single drop of rain all afternoon.
‘Mid Argyll’s minis teams improved as the day went on, the club impressed at the U14 boys games winning all of their fixtures and also provided a healthy number of girls to play alongside Oban against Islay.
‘The referees on the day, Brochan, Gavin Allan, Mick Wilson, Matt Corns, James MacDonald, Stevie McAleer and Oban S1 Finlay Brown, who refereed his first ever game, should all be thanked for their work. Without our referees there the Dalriada’s could not happen.’
