Mid Argyll Arts Society annual exhibition returns
Once again, it is going to be possible to have the Mid Argyll Arts Society annual exhibition this year in August. Thanks to the cooperation of the Army Cadet Force, it will be held, as before, in the Drill Hall, Lochgilphead, from Sunday August 4 until Saturday August 10.
In the past two years it has had over 500 visitors to the exhibition over the week and it is hoped these good numbers will continue this year.
While a majority of the exhibition will still display original paintings and photographs, the society is expanding it this year to include creative artwork made of ceramics, glass, wood and fabrics, but not jewellery.
These will be displayed on tables, with each contributor renting his or her own space for their items. The society hopes that these displays will add to the general interest in the exhibition and give artis- tic craft workers in the area another outlet for bringing their work to the attention of the community.
One of the successes of 2018 was the computerised registration and production of labels for the exhibits. The society received many favourable comments about these attractive labels, which were so easily read by visitors. A similar, and even improved system, will be in place for this year.
Updates
The society’s Facebook page, @midargyllartsociety, is the place to look for updates on preparations for the exhibition and especially, as it gets nearer the time, for details on registration of exhibits. Preregistration will be available online. For any queries, these can be sent to the email address, midargyllartsociety@ gmail.com.
Speaking for the Mid Argyll Art Society, Angus MacNeill said: ‘While it is always a challenge to continue with the annual exhibition, we feel that this is an occasion for bringing a little light and joy to the community, as well as being an encouragement to local artists who may not be displaying their work on a wider front. We hope people will look forward to it and that artists, photographers and creative art workers will use it as a stimulus to produce something that will bring pleasure to us all.’
