Classical music duo come to Ardrishaig
Ardrishaig Public Hall will once again be the venue of choice for an afternoon of classical music.
Mid Argyll Arts Association will welcome Maximiliano Martín and Scott Mitchell to the stage tomorrow (Saturday October 26).
Spanish clarinettist, Maximiliano Martín, is thought of as one of the most exciting and charismatic musicians of his generation. He combined his position of principal clarinet of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with solo, chamber music engagements and masterclasses around the world.
Martin made his debut as a soloist and chamber musician in many of the world’s most prestigious venues including the BBC Proms Cadogan Hall, Library of Congress, Washington and Mozart Hall in Seoul.
Over the past years he has performed concertos with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, European Union Chamber Orchestr, Orquesta Real Filarmonía de Galicia and many more. In May 2017 he premiered a new clarinet converto, ‘Llanto’, specially written for him by New Zealand composer Lyell Creswell.
During the Saturday afternoon concert, Scott Mitchell will accompany on piano. The award-winning Scottish pianist has performed extensively as a chamber music pianist and accompanist throughout Europe, South America and the Middle East.
As a recording artist, Scott has released numerous CDs, most recently recording a performance of Dave Heath’s piano concerto, The Passionate, with the BBC Concert Orchestra, released on the Freestyle Classics label.
Scott is a senior staff accompanist and senior lecturer in piano accompaniment at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, where he was recently made a Fellow. He is also a member of the accompaniment staff at Edinburgh Napier University and one of the founding members of the Cantilena Festival on Islay, a festival for strings that takes place on the island every summer.
The duo will perform a programme of Widor, Poulenc, Debussy, Saint-Saens and Chausson. The performance begins at 3pm and tickets cost £12 or £10 for concessions. Entry is free for students.
