-

Ireland (0-4) 4-26 (5-11) Scotland Scotland took the Mowi Quaich with a convincing 26-4 win over Ireland at a wet Abbotstown, Dublin, on Saturday November 2.

The Scots were chasing their fourth successive win, though the previous three successes came in Inverness. Ireland last tasted victory in 2015 when they edged out the Scots 16-14 at Croke Park.

Ireland were again co-managed by Willie Maher and Conor Phelan. This was their fifth year against the Scots, including two years with the U21s, but it was their first international on home soil.

Ireland made a bright start and after just two minutes Paul Divilly launched the ball goalwards and although keeper Stuart MacDonald got a stick to the ball, it looped over the bar.

The hosts added another point soon after, but Scotland notched their first point on 12 minutes through Daniel Cameron.

Both sides then passed up good chances to score in quick succession. First, Kevin Bartlett gave the visitors

the lead with a free-hit, before Scotland scored their first goal on 31 minutes. Craig Morrison was in the right place to sweep the ball into the net from left of centre.

Scotland now led 6-2 and they never looked back.

Andrew MacCuish added another goal on 35 minutes, before Cillian Kiely lifted and dropped a dead ball between the posts from the middle of the park on 38 minutes and the first half ended with Scotland leading 9-3.

Scotland found the net again less than a minute after the re-start when Craig Morrison scored his second goal, then Steven MacDonald launched a huge dead ball between the posts from midfield on 44 minutes.

An Ireland free hit made it 14-4, but a Steven Macdonald hit over restored the Scots’ 12-point advantage.

Kyles man Roddy MacDonald fired a goal home on 66 minutes to make it 19-4 and two minutes later the visitors got their final goal through Kevin Bartlett.

This was Scotland’s fourth successive win in this fixture and the Mowi Quaich was presented to Scotland captain and goalkeeper Stuart MacDonald.
