Tarbert Coastguard ensures Santa’s elf and safety

Tarbert’s Christmas Fair took place on Friday December 6 in the Templar Arts and Leisure Centre.

Makers, crafters and local organisations packed the first two floors with a huge range of gift ideas for even the most difficult-to-buy-for person on your Christmas list.

But the person everyone wanted to see was on the top floor, where Santa’s grotto was ready and waiting for the man in red and white to spend a few hours and pick up lists from all Tarbert’s excited girls and boys.

Tarbert’s emergency services are well known for looking after Santa and he arrived with the Coastguard in his personalised vehicle. He was met by young Robert

Hawthorn who showed Santa how to get to his grotto before telling him what he’d like to see under his tree on Christmas Day.

As well as the fair, the village was also switching on its Christmas lights.

Primary school children walked into the village from the Coastguard station, each carrying a home-made lantern.

After some carol singing, it was up to the 2019 Tarbert Seafood Queen Nell JacksonMacfarlane and Councillor Anne Horn to say a few words and light up the village.

And, with a council delay in getting the Christmas tree lights up and ready for the switch on, HM Coastguard Tarbert Rescue Team saved the day once again by placing helicopter landing lights under the tree to make sure every part of the village was as festive as possible.

Tarbert’s tree received its Christmas lights, bedecked on the village’s third Christmas tree in a week (see last week’s edition for the full story), on Saturday December 7.
