Oban – United Auctions on Tuesday December 3
held their annual Christmas show and sale when they sold 794 suckled calves and store cattle at Oban Livestock Centre. Prior to the sale, the judging was in the capable hands of Mr Gareth Scott, Meikle Ittington, Ardrossan when he awarded the Champion prize and The Cameron Livestock Quaich to D W Semple and Son, Dippen Farm, Campbeltown for their 358kg, LimX heifer which later realised £2900 (centre record) to J Pirrie, Blarnavaid Farm, Drymen. Bullocks sold to £1080 for a 662kg, SalX from Drumaglea Ltd, Tiree to average £667.23 (+£59.63). Heifers averaged £628.71 (+£90.99). Bullocks sold to 308p/kg for a 292kg CharX from D W Semple and Son to average 224p/kg (+13p/ kg) and heifers averaged 225p/kg (+30p/kg), selling to 810p/kg for the Champion. A large following of buyers were in attendance from throughout Scotland and England which ensured all stock being cleared at highly satisfactory rates to seller’s advantage. Mainland bullock: 1.
