Kind donation helps provide vital services
A generous gift from Mid Argyll Youth Development Services (MAYDS) has allowed Argyll Talking Newspapers to gain hundreds of pounds worth of vital equipment.
MAYDS manager Fiona Kalache, who received an MBE for her youth work in the Queen’s New Year Honours List, and MAYDS trustee Raymond Flanagan visited the talking newspapers’ team on January 17 to present a number of audio USB players and USB sticks.
Light sticks
Raymond explained: ‘Mid Argyll Youth Forum raised the money to purchase the equipment through its ventures of selling light sticks at the Mid Argyll Round Table fireworks display and the Lochgilphead High School Christmas market.’
Talking newspapers’ volunteers meet each Friday in
Ardrishaig to record local newspapers on to USB sticks which are posted out to 130 listeners from across Argyll, other areas in Scotland and
England too. Each listener receives a digital audio box which plays the USB sticks so they can keep up with what is happening in Argyll and
Bute. Chairman Robin Finlay described the donations as a ‘marvellous addition’ to the charity’s equipment. ‘During the last three months we have registered seven new listeners in Oban, Lochgilphead, Ford, Dunoon and on Islay and these nine digital players and USB sticks represent the core of the vital equipment we need to supply our listeners,’ he added. ‘It is a generous and much-appreciated gift.’
