Full house at accordion and fiddle club
The Inveraray and District Accordion and Fiddle Club got 2020 off to a flying start with a full house at the Inveraray Inn on January 8.
Supporting players on the night were Fyne Folk; with Sally Hall, Jake MacKay and Alex John MacLeod on fiddles and Agnes Liddell on keyboard, joined by Angus J MacColl on small pipes.
Also playing were – Janet Graham on accordion, accompanied by Jimmy MacDonald on keyboard; Jim McMillan on vocals and guitar, accompanied by Agnes and Jake; Alison Diamond on fiddle with John Kelly on guitar; Peter Stewart on accordion accompanied by Jimmy on keyboard. All their varied contributions were much enjoyed by an appreciative audience.
The guest artistes were the ever-popular Ross MacPherson Trio – with Ross on accordion, Calum MacPhail on fiddle and Angus D MacColl on drums. They treated the faithful audience to a great west coast sound of pipe marches, Gaelic and modern waltzes, jigs, reels, slow foxtrots and two-steps, with Angus J playing the Highland bagpipes for some of the sets. Calum did a couple of lovely solos, including Calum’s Road as a tribute to the late Malcolm and Duncan MacKay, who had connections with the Island of Raasay.
For the grand finale, Angus J joined the band on Highland bagpipes and enthralled the crowd with a great selection, and with the audience shouting for an encore a grand stramash followed.
Chairman Niall Iain MacLean thanked all the artistes for a wonderful night’s entertainment.
Next week, on Wednesday February 12, the club welcomes as guest artiste a musician who is no stranger to the Scottish dance scene, Neil MacMillan, from Rowardennan, and his band.
