Meet the 2019 MOJO lineup – The Twisted Melons

-

The burning questions for the 2019 MOJO lineup following their brilliant performances at last year’s festival.

Stephen Johnson from the band of brothers, The Twisted Melons, answered on behalf of the band.

1. Describe your music in three words.

Melodic sensory overload.

2. If you could put one of your tracks in a time capsule for future generations to remember your music by what would the killer tune be?

Our track 77 probably sums up the social media age for us.

3. How and where do you go about writing your songs? Anywhere from walking down the street to a jam at a party could spark an idea, then it has to pass the cringe test of bringing it to the rest of the band.

4. How do you wind down after a successful gig?

Walking outside on a crisp night towards a room full of friends.

5. If you could choose one person from music history, alive or dead, to have a drink with who would it be and why?

Julian Cope because that’s also an opportunity to speak to an alien.

6. Where and when was your last gig and how did it go?

Our last gig was in a tiny pub in Campbeltown between Christmas and New Year – it was bouncing.

7. What has been the best moment of your music venture so far?

In the studio, learning from legendary engineer Stuart Epps. Live, festival gigs are usually the best – MOJO was up there. 8. What advice would you give to musicians trying to play their own music here in Argyll?

Play together as often as you can. If no one will give you a gig, put on your own. Do your own songs and if you don’t get the reaction you want, write more.

9. What’s next?

We were looking forward to playing at Stereo in Glasgow on February 14 with Australian touring band Jade Imagine but it was cancelled unfortunately. We, however, have plenty of work to be doing for our next album.
