What Advertiser readers think

-

Now we are out the EU club, what do our readers think?

After 47 years in the EEC and, since 1992, the EU, the UK formally left at 11pm on Friday January 31.

The UK has now entered a ‘transition period’ until the end of 2020 while the UK and EU negotiate additional arrangements.

According to the www. gov.uk website: ‘The current rules on trade, travel and business for the UK and EU will continue to apply during the transition period. New rules will take effect on January 1 2021.’

We used the medium of Facebook to ask what people thought as this historic moment arrived.

Here are a selection of comments from the Argyllshire Advertiser Facebook page:

David Innis said: ‘Absolute disaster for Scotland. Firstly, anyone who thinks the UK government will support Argyll with rural grants to the same level as the EU has is sadly mistaken and, secondly, EU nationals have been making Argyll their home and workplaces for years and in the main to the betterment of the area.’

Yvie Young: ‘Disastrous in my opinion. EU funding has benefited many communities across Scotland. I worry about what it means for the social, economic and cultural benefits the EU has previously provided.’

John Hall: ‘Excellent news. Independence from the dead hand of the Brussels unelected oligarchy.’

Colin Murray: ‘Rock n roll

Boris.’ David Smart: ‘Unprintable.’

Duncan Black: ‘So many salty remoaners. Get over it, you lost.’ John Richardson: ‘Get

over it, you won!’

Keith Melvin: ‘Right into the hands of Trump and the Chinese, political gains from dodgy back room trade deals. Good luck...’
