Race night proves a winner in Tarbert

-

The going was good for one of Tarbert’s annual events, the Corner House Race Night, which was held on Saturday February 1.

Big-hearted locals dug deep to support two charities close to Corner House’s heart, and at the end of the evening, when the winners were declared, both Myaware and Parkinson’s UK had romped home with £1,915 going to each charity.

Myaware is the only charity in the UK dedicated solely to the care and support of people affected by myasthenia. Meaning ‘muscle weakeness’, myasthenia is a rare autoimmune condition which can affect all genders and ages, with Myaware providing help and support to people, and their families, who have been diagnosed with the condition.

Parkinson’s UK is the charity working to help improve life for those affected by

Parkinson’s disease. In the UK, 145,000 people are living with Parkinson’s, with two people diagnosed every hour.

Normally held at the beginning of December, the race night moved to its new fixture of the beginning February to stop too many diary clashes with the start of the festive season.

The Corner House’s Duggie MacNeill thanked everyone for coming out to support the event saying the people of Tarbert are ‘absolutely amazing’. He continued: ‘Once again I am humbled by the generosity of our community, and on behalf of the lives which will be touched by this fundraising, I’d like to say an enormous thank you.

‘As always, there are people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to turn fundraising events into great nights out. On behalf of me, Margaret, Martin, Allie, Tracy and Craig, our heartfelt thanks go to Ricky Graham for compering the evening, to Lynne Clark for printing programmes and acting as cashier, to each of our race sponsors and to everyone who donated raffle prizes or bought a horse on the night.’
