Sunday school note mystery

Cash prize up for grabs

-

At the end of the third week of lockdown, one of the nation’s favourite pastimes has been tidying up and clearing out cupboards.

Some people are finding long-forgotten items, others are finally clearing out unnecessary clutter.

One such item has been sent to us by a former Sunday school teacher from Ardrishaig.

The handwritten note dates from around 2007 and reads, intriguingly: ‘The reason I like verses nine and 10 is that they go together and make a feeling.

‘The feeling is that your (sic) not alone and God is caring for you all the time and so is your mum and dad and everyone in your family is.’

The former Sunday school teacher said: ‘This statement of childlike faith may indeed offer comfort to some right now, but it also contains a mystery... there was nothing found with it to indicate from which book or chapter of the Bible the verses nine and 10 came.’

Do you think you could identify the passage?

With 66 books in total, it will take some searching to find which book and chapter contain verses nine and 10 that create this feeling of being cared for that the young author describes. Taking 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New, there are a total of 1,189 chapters to hunt through – so this is not for the faint-hearted.

Ardrishaig minister David Carruthers will accept your answers, so if you think you have found the perfect verse, please email your answer to DCarruthers@churchofscotland.org.uk. A cash prize of £25 is on offer, courtesy of the Sunday School teacher, to the diligent searcher who finds the verses. The closing date will be June 1 and the winner plus the winning verses will be announced shortly after that.
