Pandemic fails to stop youthful fundraisers
There was no stopping a determined bunch of Mid Argyll pals as they walked miles for a good cause.
It was after 11-year-old Cole Houston learned all about charities earlier this year at Ardrishaig Primary School that he decided to do a sponsored walk to raise money for a cancer charity.
Cole asked his friends if they would like to join in, and the youthful fundraisers were all set for their seven-mile walk back in April, but coronavirus restrictions made this impossible.
Glorious weather
After waiting patiently through lockdown, they managed to finally complete their walk from Ardrishaig to Bellanoch on Sunday September 6, in glorious weather.
Aged between eight and 13 years of age, taking part in the hike were Ardrishaig Primary School pupils Cole Houston, Nell Houston, Alex Airlie, Rudi Campbell, Cameron Gilmour, Steven
Johnson-Dale, Lexie Houston and Blair Houston along with Lochgilphead High School pupil Maisie Gilmour.
Cole’s mum Kirsteen said: ‘Cole and his friends had a great day.
‘They thoroughly enjoyed it and Cole was made up by the amount of money they have raised.’
So far the kids have raised £700 (and rising) for Macmillan Cancer Support.
There is still time to donate to their efforts – visit the Just Giving site and search for Kirsteen Houston and the fundraising page called ‘Let’s raise some money!!’ will pop up.
