Capital funding of up to £20,000 for farmers ’ going green’

-

The Scottish Government launched a pilot grant scheme called the Sustainable Agriculture Capital Grant Scheme on Monday September 7.

The scheme offers capital grant funding of up to £20,000 for farmers and crofters to buy specific items of agricultural equipment to support them in the delivery of direct greenhouse gas reductions on Scottish farms and crofts.

This in turn will help Scotland deliver on its highly ambitious statutory climate change targets as well in the majority of cases delivering improvement in air and water quality or animal welfare. The grants are funded by the Scottish Government.

Full details on eligibility and how to apply is available at https://www.ruralpayments. org/

AN OVERVIEW

The Sustainable Agriculture Capital Grant Scheme provides grant funding for farmers and crofters to purchase specific items of agricultural equipment.

This is a pilot grant scheme. The scheme opened for applications on Monday September 7 and closes to applications midnight Sunday October 11.

The main objectives/expected outcomes of the scheme is to:

 protect and improve the natural environment

 reduce greenhouse gas emissions from farming operations

 support farming sustainable support sustainable land

 use

The capital items that can be applied for through the SACGS have been chosen for their effectiveness in reducing greenhouse gas emissions as well supporting sustainable farming, by improving land and livestock management.

The Sustainable Agriculture Capital Grant Scheme will offer grants based on standard costs. The use of standard costs will reduce the burden on farmers and crofters as they are not required to submit quotes with applications. This approach will provide a more straightforward application for farmers, crofters and SGRPID.
