Kilmartin Horse Show 2022 - jumping in the rain again
The fifth Kilmartin Horse Show - organised by Argyll South Pony Club and BS Argyll - was, as usual, wet.
However, this did not deter the hardy Argyll riders who kept smiling and made a grand day of it.
Held at Upper Largie fields on Sunday July 24, courtesy of Sheila MacCallum, the show has three rings and offers something for everyone of all ages and horse sizes.
Local sponsorship is a key element of this show and the committee is extremely grateful for this support as it allows the purchase of terrific rosettes and trophies for every class.
The working hunters were judged by Carrie Scobie from Stirling and the pony club pony/horse was judged by former Argyll South member Mairi Henderson.
The Champion Working Hunter was Torplin Castlehill Mist ridden by Ardfern rider Patricia O’Reilly and Poppy McClymont was a worthy winner of the Pony Club Pony Championship on Bracon Fairytale.
In the show jumping ring Liz MacNab built a 10-jump course and Helen Samborek and Anne McArthur controlled the excellent and competitive jumping with whistle and stopwatch.
The Argyll 80 Championship was a very busy and keenly contested class and victory eventually went to Ardrishaig rider Deborah Hay Thorburn and the redoubtable Urban Legend while Oban rider Paige Scott took the Grand Prix 90 and was followed home by Carradale combo of Leah McConnachie and Glenfyne Topaz.
The overall Argyll show jumping points trophy for the day was won by KatieEllen Mellish and Nemo.
Altogether a very exciting event and the committee would like to thank all the many supporters and helpers – catering team, ring stewards, course builders, sponsors, spectators – and, of course, competitors and spectators, who all helped to make it such a splendid day.
