Businesses compete for Doddie Aid prize
Businesses based at Kilmory Industrial Estate in Lochgilphead have been competing for a new trophy, writes Rita Campbell.
When MacLeod Construction took part in Doddie Aid, a national inter-district challenge last year, they decided to create a bit of competition locally.
And the Doddie Aid Kilmory Crown was launched.
Doddie Aid is a virtual mass-participation exercise event founded by former Scotland rugby caption, Rob Wainwright. It began on January 1 and runs until the Doddie Weir Cup, which this year took place on February 12, for the Scotland versus Wales rugby match.
Any exercise counts, with the winning district being the one with the most miles at the end of the event.
The event raises funds for My Name5 Doddie Foundation which invests in research to find meaningful treatments for motor neurone disease (MND).
After creating the Doddie Aid Kilmory Crown last year, MacLeod Construction challenged the neighbouring Midton Acrylics factory to a race.
In its inaugural year, Midton won the crown.
This year, the competition was opened up to other businesses in Kilmory Industrial Estate. MacLeod and Midton were joined by HIE/Nature Scot and ATV Services.
Mairi Coleman nee MacLeod, construction manager at MacLeod, said: “We are delighted that we took the crown back this year as overall winner and for Midton to present us with the Kilmory Crown. Midton also presented us with an award from their stunning Remade Rarity Collection. We’ve really enjoyed taking part in the challenge but also to create a bit of competition locally and raise awareness of such an incredible cause.” She added: “We’re already making plans for next year and hope that other businesses will take part.”
