towards each other. Then a ball of light approached the other lights.

“All three were stationary for a while before disappearing into the distance. Another light then hovered where the others had been.”

But there have been many reports of UFOS over Derbyshire before and since 2009.

In 2018, several locals reported seeing a ‘ghost plane’ circling over the area. Reports came in from Ripley, Hilton,

However, in-the-know readers contacted our newsroom to say the sightings were actually a Hercules transport plane. The year before, former Rolls-royce worker, Kay Beardsley, noticed a strange light in the sky above Chaddesden.

She said it was moving around at speed at around 10pm on October 6, 2017, but was silent. She also claimed that a plane flew close to it, so it was too

“It looked like it was dancing in the sky,” she said at the time. “I’ve never seen anything like this before. I’ve never seen a UFO, I don’t claim that this is one, but I would like to know what it is.”

Perhaps Derbyshire’s most famous UFO report came in 2001 when Sharon Rowlands used a camera to film a huge craft above her house one dreary autumnal night.

Space enthusiasts described the content as “one of the most important pieces of footage ever taken”.

Ms Rowlands said: “It resembled a giant disc with a bite taken out of the bottom. As it hovered over the woods, it seemed to expand and then get smaller again.

“We could see it pulsing as if it started up and then it just went. It came really close at one stage and I thought it was going to land in the field.”

A Yougov poll earlier this year found one in five Brits believe aliens are already among us – although 65% remained sceptical, and 15% of those polled were still undecided.
