Young Ideas moves city outlet into shopping centre

AN Ashbourne-based fashion brand is moving its Derby shop into the city’s biggest shopping centre after a decade of trading in the Cathedral Quarter.

Young Ideas, which stocks luxury designer women’s and menswear and is headquartered in St John Street’s former Green Man complex, will open its new store at the Derby Centre, formerly Intu Derby, after the lockdown restrictions have eased.

The long-established retailer, founded in Ashbourne in 1968, will open its doors on Level Two of the city shopping centre tomorrow.

The Iron Gate store, which has been open for 10 years, will reopen for a few weeks post-lockdown as a “designer sale shop”, but is to close after Christmas.

Anne Wright, owner of Young Ideas, said: “We’re excited to open our new store at the Derby Centre, just in time for Christmas.

“We’ll be bringing all of our mostloved brands when we open next week and look forward to joining the centre’s other premium fashion retailers.

“We look forward to welcoming Derby shoppers.”

The new store will stock women’s and menswear, as well as shoes, bags and accessories from more than 80 designers including Paul Smith, Hugo Boss, Max Mara, Michael Kors, Emporio Armani and Belstaff. The high-end retailer, which also has a boutique in Lichfield, posted on Facebook to inform customers of the news.

Part of the post reads: “We think customers old and new will love our new location where we have extended space to accommodate all of our designer collections including both womenswear and menswear.

“We are located opposite Zara and Costa Coffee on the second floor, close to lots of our favourite shops such as M&S Food, Carluccio’s, Hotel Chocolat and Boots, making it convenient for all your needs with easy parking too.

“Sam, Lucy, Julie and Linda will all be based in the new store and we would love to welcome you as soon as you are able to visit.

“We’ve had an amazing 10 years in the Cathedral Quarter but as our current building is scheduled for redevelopment we have needed to find a new home,” the post continued.

“Our Iron Gate store will remain open as a designer sale shop for another month until Christmas - there are great bargains to be had as we make room for more.”

Adam Tamsett, general manager at the Derby Centre, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Young Ideas and a number of brilliant popups to the centre next month, further strengthening to our offer for visitors over the festive period.

“We’re always working hard to refresh our brand line-up to create the best retail and leisure experiences for our visitors and the Derbyshire community.

“With a number of extra safety measures in place throughout the centre, such as enhanced cleaning and footfall monitoring, visitors can rest assured that Derby Centre is closely following Government guidelines to offer a safe place to shop this Christmas.”

Safety measures in place across the Derby Centre include additional staff on standby to help manage the numbers of shoppers, a requirement to wear face coverings throughout, enhanced cleaning regimes across all visitor touch points, as well as hand sanitising stations.
