Dairy sets up a new honesty outlet
A NEW honesty shop selling dairy products from a prizewinning herd of Jersey cattle is about to open up within walking distance of the town centre.
The family-run Coleaton Jersey Dairy, in Windmill Lane, has been home to a brand of luxury artisan ice cream for three-and-a-half years, with its products popping up in shops and cafes across the Ashbourne area – but now people can stroll up and pick it straight from the farm freezer.
The launch of the company’s new honesty shop also coincides with the launch of a new line in bottled pasteurised milk, which can be plucked from a fridge within sight of the cows that produced it.
Dairy owner Jo Burrows said: “We are excited to welcome people down to our small honesty shop on our farm on Windmill Lane, in Ashbourne.
“As some people are aware, we have been making our luxury artisan ice cream on the farm for the past three and-a-half years, using the rich and creamy milk from our pedigree prize-winning Jersey cows.
“This month we have started bottling our milk and with this in mind we set to planning our honesty shop.
“We are within walking distance from town and we also have a lovely footpath that runs through the farm, past the shop, and along the valley to the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton Road.
“Our aim is to offer a local convenient shop, providing local people with a good range of quality local products.”
The farm, which has been a regular recipient of the King Edward Cup at the Ashbourne Show, will be opening seven days a week from 7.30am until 7.30pm from Saturday.
Alongside farm-fresh Jersey milk and 16 flavours of ice cream, the cash-only shop will also be supporting other local producers, selling items such as eggs, honey, cards, potatoes, cheese, yoghurts, and mince pies.
