-

GILL Lockwood has been elected as Ashbourne GC’S president for 2021, while Ian Mcdarmaid is club captain.

Penny Elliott has been named lady captain, Malcolm Wilson is seniors captain and, for the second successive year, Harry Bates is junior captain.

Gill has been an active member of Ashbourne GC for 20 years, including being ladies’ captain on three occasions.

She has also served on both the Golf and Ladies’ Committee for many years.

Ian began playing golf at

Ashbourne GC after finishing playing league cricket at Brailsford CC, where he had also been secretary, treasurer and chairman, and is now a vice president.

Since retiring, he has become more active within the golf club, where he has been senior captain, sales & marketing director, club chairman and vice captain.

Ian is particularly grateful for the support of his wife Ann – they celebrate their golden wedding anniversary this year.

Penny rejoined Ashbourne after a gap of seven years working abroad and, now part-time, is looking forward to devoting more time to her new role, while Malcolm is also keen to become more involved after being a member for two years.

Harry, a year 12 student at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School who has also played for Ashbourne RFC, started playing golf three years ago and has an 8.5 handicap.

Meanwhile, the club aims to reschedule the Captains’ Drive In for late spring after its traditional New Year’s Day date was postponed because of the ongoing pandemic.
