Wallis goal as Under-14s back with a draw

-

ASHBOURNE Aztec Under-14 Juniors battled to a 1-1 draw with Stanton Ilkeston at Osmaston.

The closely-matched sides produced an entertaining game in which Ashbourne took a half-time lead through a Harry Wallis penalty after Josh Menaj was fouled.

Goalkeeper Jamie Longyear made a terrific save to keep the scores level at the break and did even better five minutes into the second half when he saved a penalty to keep the score at 1-0.

Chances to seal the points came and went but Stanton equalised after a corner with seven minutes left.

On Sunday, the under-14s are at home to Belper Juniors in their cup semi-final. AZTECS UNDER-14S: J Longyear, D Walwyn, L Baird, M Gillis, A Garciaquintero, H Wallis, J Menaj, B Smith, D Sidders, J Stelfox, J King, C Mckone, L Shirtcliffe.

AZTECS Under-16s resumed their season with an 8-1 win over Repton Casuals in a friendly at Mappleton.

Toby Carolan gave them an early lead with a neat finish but Repton soon equalised.

Freddie Murphy put Ashbourne back ahead and then added to it with two penalties before half-time after fouls on himself and strike partner Jake Walklett.

Murphy took his tally to five with two more spot-kicks after the break, then Will Heron latched on to an excellent Kyle Clowes through ball to score the seventh.

Walklett scored a well-deserved first goal for the team, converting a cross from Aleksey Tabony.

The match saw a late farewell appearance from skipper Will Gerard, who has signed for Chesterfield’s Academy.

He passed the armband on to Dan Burton.
