Busy Easter weekend as golfers in action

-

THE Easter weekend saw competitive golf return to Ashbourne GC with a different event on each of the four days of the holiday.

Despite cold and windy conditions with the earlyseason greens slower than they will be later, there were some good performances.

Notable, particularly, were the scores of Pierre-alain Weir and club chairman Martyn Shinner in the Friday Stableford, Ken Bainbridge and Chris Sothers in the Easter Medal and Simon Spencer and Andy Rogers in the four ball better ball pairs.

Weir won the first division of the Stableford with 38 points, which included two birdies, while Shinner matched that score in division three.

Past captain Bainbridge scattered the field in division one of the Easter Medal with a nett 68 which included a superb eagle on the par five eighth hole.

Sothers shot a nett 66 to take the division three prize. The highly competitive pairing of Spencer and Rogers ruled supreme in the four ball better ball event, the highlight of which were two birdie twos by Rogers, whose handicap will surely come down this year if he continues to play to his potential.

In a particularly strong wind on Easter Monday, the Texas Scramble winners in the three-man competition were Dan Potter, Craig Brown and Martin Hellaby.

The four-man event in the same format was won by Andy Innes, Andy Teece, Steve Biddulph and Weir.
