Festival not done yet as acts lined up for second take

There’s more to the Ashbourne Festival this year than a summer of events, organiser TIM CHALLANS returns to remind us, as part two of the celebrated annual festival draws near

-

YOU’LL remember that the 2021 Ashbourne Festival was planned in two parts to reduce the risk of cancellations during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are now moving into part two in September and October.

During the summer our temporary gallery ‘17’ on St John Street has been home to a number of exhibitions and workshops organised and run by local artists and makers.

There are more exhibitions and activities to come in the autumn and the run up to Christmas.

Work has also started on the 2021 Art Trail around local shops and businesses, planned for October and November.

The Autumn events kick off with Comedy Night with headliner Marcus Brigstocke on 24 September.

The festival team have released another 50 tickets to this usually very popular sold out treat, so book quickly if you have not got your tickets yet.

Also selling fast are tickets to 80s chart band The Christians on 25 September. Described as “The Temptations in ripped jeans” by one critic, this band made a big impact on the late 80s music scene. Don’t miss this opportunity to see them in Ashbourne.

Both Comedy Night and The Christians are appearing at QEGS on The Green Road where there is plenty of space to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.

Tickets are also available for Ashbourne Community Cinema’s first screening on 30 September. It’s showing the Oscar winning film ‘Judy’ – the extraordinary bio-pic of Judy Garland with an exceptional performance from Renee Zellweger. Tickets will soon be released for a new show from the very entertaining film and television expert Neil Brand whose brilliant documentaries have been a popular feature on television in recent years.

More events may be added to the Festival programme as the year progresses. You should keep an eye on the Festival website www. ashbournefestival.org for details, bookings and any changes.

Events are on sale already via the website and from the Ashbourne Visitor Information Centre in the Town Hall.

Changes could occur if national or local Covid-19 restrictions change.

Keep safe and have fun.
