Community cinema is showing multi-oscar-winning tale

-

TICKETS are still available for the next movie in the current series of screenings put on by the volunteer-run Ashbourne Community Cinema group.

Nomadland will be showing tomorrow (Thursday) from 8pm, and the blockbuster is the latest big movie to bolster the group’s commitment to bring world, independent and commercial cinema to the Ashbourne area.

Taking place at St John’s Church, the multi-oscar winning movie charts the tale of middle- aged people living an alternative lifestyle in the United States.

It follows Fern, played by Francis Mcdormand, who won the best actress Oscar for her performance. Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern packs her converted van and sets off on the road, exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. The film follows her life for a year, from Christmas to Christmas, as she takes on temporary seasonal work across several states.

It is the third feature film from director Chloe Zhao and features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and companions in her exploration of the vast landscape of the American West.

As this is the Ashbourne Community Cinema’s Christmas presentation, mince pies and mulled wine will be available.

Tickets for the movie are priced at £6 and are available from www. ticketsource.co.uk/ashbournecommunity-cinema or on the door.

The next film planned, “The Personal History of David Copperfield”, will screen on Thursday, January 27.
