Versatile Victor’s Abbotsholme gig
ABBOTSHOLME Arts Society gets its season under way with a performance by young pianist Victor Lim this month.
The society’s new run of regular concerts at the Rocester school starts on Saturday, January 22 from 7.30pm with a programme including music by Bach, Granados, Scriabin, Grieg and Ravel.
Following his appearance in BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2012, Victor Lim has established himself as one of the most versatile and creative musicians of his generation.
Described as a pianist with “great possibilities of nuance and perfect flexibility”, Victor has performed around the world in UK, France, Germany, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Romania, China, Singapore and South Korea.
In 2020 he performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.5 ‘Emperor’ with NMH Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Eivind Aadland and will release his first professional solo recording in 2022.
His repertoire ranges from Rameau to Kapustin and his interest in new music has led to recent collaborations with Graham Fitkin and Stephen Hough. Victor combines his active solo career with his great enthusiasm for chamber music.
He has collaborated with Eszter Haffner and Susie Mészáros, and currently enjoys close duo partnerships with cellists Sandra Lied Haga, Waynne Kwon and soprano Teng Xiang Ting.
He trained at Wells Cathedral School with John Byrne and Richard Ormrod, then at the Royal Northern College of Music with Graham Scott, Jeremy Young and Murray Mclachlan as an ABRSM scholar.
Awards from Help Musicians UK and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust enabled Victor to continue his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Michael Dussek, where he graduated with a Dip RAM and was awarded the Christian Carpenter Prize for the best final recital. After pursuing the Artist Diploma programme at the Norwegian Academy of Music, Victor now continues his studies with Kathryn Stott at the RNCM where he is supported by the Leverhulme Scholarship.
Tickets for his concert are priced at £20, available at the door on the night, or in advance by calling 01543 263304.
