Bakewell Market

-

With the exception of Store Cattle, all sections were well supported and trade very satisfactory.

A total of 200 cattle and 1,313 Sheep were on offer.

Vendors of Store Cattle had opted to enter their stock for Monday, January 10 and there were thought to be sufficient numbers to mobilise the longer distance buyers for Monday’s sale.

What few stores there were on offer attracted plenty of interest and fierce competition with all vendors more than satisfied with the result.

In calf heifers sold at £1,530 and £1,520, Feeding Bulls to £850 and 18 month Sim heifers to £990.

In the Finished Cattle section, 94 head sold on a decent trade with top figures of 289 pence for both Steers and Heifers.

Top gross price was £1,866 and the average for the 32 heifers was a solid 230.2 pence.

63 BARREN, OTM AND FEEDING COWS OVERALL AVERAGE 140.8P

Half numbers for the New Year sale and cows have kicked off the year considerably dearer than they finished in 2021. All the regular buyers at ringside looked like they meant business today and had to ‘step on’ if they wanted to buy them. Top price today was 196p for a 29 1⁄2 mnth old (1 calf) Simmental from the Jackson Family, Wardlow with Charlie Taberner at 193p for a 1 calf

(40 mnths) Limousin. No show stopping cows today but some good, well-fed commercial meat cows for the buyers to bid 150180p for.
