A PAIR of female performers that make up two thirds of the acclaimed all-female acoustic trio The Magpies will be performing their own blend of acoustic sound at Alstonefield Village Hall this weekend.

Holly Brandon and Bella Gaffney will be appearing at the village venue from 8pm on Saturday, with tickets priced at £12 if bought in advance or £14 on the door.

Holly Brandon has been playing music with her brother, solo musician George Brandon, for as long as they can remember.

Appearing at Alstonefield as Painted Sky, the duo have made a lasting impression with their progressive acoustic sound, balancing original material with their take on more traditional English music.

Organiser of the Alstonefield In Concert series Martin Snodin said: “Their songs are characterised by honest vocals and timeless storytelling, underpinned by driving rhythms, whilst their exquisite instrumentals weave delicate finger-picking guitar and soaring fiddle with a dynamic energy.

“They seamlessly blend traditional and original tunes as well as those from further afield, such as the complex rhythms of Eastern Europe to the fiddle stomping tunes of Quebec, to create a distinct and borderless synthesis of contemporary folk.”

Bradford-born Bella won the Celtic Connections Danny Kayle award in 2020. She writes folk-inspired songs which she normally performs solo,, along with her own original arrangements of traditional pieces.

She has played at many festivals over the years, including Beverley, Hebcelt, Butefest, Dent, Shrewsbury, Otley, Southwell, BAAFEST, and Filey.
