Couple’s pride at creating lasting legacy for their home town
DELIGHT AT POSITIVE FEEDBACK FOR POPULAR PAVILION IN THE PARK
THE Ashbourne-based construction firm behind the million pound Pavilion in the Park say they have been proud to be a part of what will become a lasting legacy for the town.
Jordan and Laura Mallisch’s firm Enrok Construction was the main contractor for the building, which overlooks the recreation ground and was paid for by community fundraising and a series of grants, all gathered in by volunteers.
The couple have spoken out as the Ashbourne Sports and Community Partnership starts counting the successes of the building’s early stages, which have seen community groups clamouring to use it and customers gathering every day to support the bar and enjoy drinks on the sundrenched terrace.
However, former Queen Elizabeths Grammar School pupil Jordan admits building the pavilion in such a tough economic climate has been difficult. He said: “Being awarded the contract to build the new pavilion in our home town has been a real privilege. “We’ve been delighted with all the positive feedback.
“As with all construction projects, this one hasn’t been without its own set of challenges, specifically navigating our way around materials shortages and steep price increases to keep the project on track and on budget. “But we’re proud of how our team overcame them – which we achieved with very careful planning.
“We’re also especially proud that the Ashbourne Sports and Community Partnership chose us to build it, and that we’ve had the opportunity to play a part in leaving a lasting legacy for the community – it’s something our children will use as they grow older.
“The project has been made possible because of the determined efforts of the partnership who had a vision and then delivered on it. All credit to them.”
The state-of-the-art 4,300 sq ft pavilion replaces the former dilapidated memorial pavilion.
The volunteer-run partership worked with Derbyshire Dales District Council and Ashbourne Town Council to attract enough funding.
Enrok Construction worked closely with Derbyshire-based FPCR Architects to pull the vision together, and ensure it met the specific ambitions of the partnership.
Partnership chairman John Lake said: “I’m delighted that we chose Enrok Construction as the main contractor.
“It was important to us that we chose a professional local business, who understood our brief and who could work with us when varying specifications during the course of the project.
“I’m so proud of what has been achieved by the great efforts of all those involved – it is a superb community asset for Ashbourne and the Derbyshire Dales.”
Bookings have already been taken for the community hub from Ashbourne Community Cinema – which screens blockbuster movies, bingo sessions, exercise classes and IT training for people of all ages.
An official opening day is planned for June.
