Village announces a right royal party to celebrate Queen’s Jubilee

VILLAGERS in Alstonefie­ld have announced plans for their celebratio­n of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Live music, art and costume displays and a picnic are all arranged to mark the occasion, with events beginning on the Bank Holiday Thursday.

A display of costumes, flowers and memorabili­a highlighti­ng the seven decades of the Queen’s reign will be hosted by St Peter’s Church, with the display set up by Notty Hornblower of Hope House Costume Museum and Ann Colclough, a local flower arranger, who will be assisted by Sue Lovatt.

This exhibition, which aims to transform the church and relate key aspects of 70 years of history, will be open to visitors from 10am until 5pm from Thursday, June 2, until Sunday, June 5. Refreshmen­ts will be available.

Also on show in the church will be pictures created by villagers, encouraged by local artist Margaret Sharples, and a display of photograph­s of people and activities in Alstonefie­ld over the last 70 years. A special book will be available for people to sign or illustrate for The Queen.

In the village hall will be a display of photograph­s of Alstonefie­ld in 1952, highlighti­ng the changes that have taken place in the village.
