Town Team to outline their grand design

-

THE Ashbourne Town Team members who were instrumental in convincing Derbyshire Dales District Council that Ashbourne deserved a shot at securing more than £15 million in funding will be spelling out their hopes and aspirations for the town at a public meeting this month.

Ashbourne and District 50+ Forum has invited the Town Team to speak at its next meeting on Friday, July 15, from 10am in Elim Church at Waterside Park.

It will be the forum’s first big meeting since it became one of the first groups to cancel a gathering as the coronavirus pandemic started to tighten its grip back in 2020, and everyone is invited from all age groups.

Running until 12.30pm, the forum has also invited members of the new Integrated Care Board to outline a vision for the future of a more joined up care system in Derbyshire.

Forum member Andrea Cooke explained: “We have invited the Ashbourne Town Team to tell us of their vision for Ashbourne and how it can recreate itself for the 21st Century. The pandemic hastened the demise of some of our shops and the footfall into the town.

“The Town Team are engaging with Derbyshire Dales District Council, the private sector and partners in the community and with members of the public to reverse decline and give reasons for people to visit the town.

“Working in partnership brings expertise to large projects and helps to build a new model for governing the town.

“A coordinated approach to transforming the town helps to maximise a concerted effort for the prosperity of the town, rather than fragmented groups sometimes working against each other.”

The Integrated Care Board is working on streamlining care in Derbyshire which concentrates on making the patient the focus of care, whether they are in hospital, at home or in a care home.

The NHS, local councils and voluntary services have joined in an collaborative approach to identify needs in the community which can help people to socialise and enhance quality of life.

Connex, Careline, Platform Housing, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, East Midlands Ambulance Service, MIND, Age UK and Rural Action Derbyshire will also be at the meeting.
