Join the fight against a disease that will hit one in two of us

Year 12 sixth form business students Philippa Davis and Scarlett Fountain have news of a fundraising event we can all get involved with this month

-

AS part of QEGS community day, which is taking place on July 8, we are holding a Race For Life, with the hope to beat our £4,000 target that will be donated to Cancer Research.

Previously this event has been run by QEGS staff, however this year, as part of our BTEC business course, we are managing the event as a group, hoping to do just as good a job as teachers did previously.

Cancer is happening right now, which is why our school is holding a Race for Life to raise money and save lives.

One in two of us will get cancer. All of us can support the research that will beat it.

Cancer Research UK’S determination to beat cancer hasn’t faltered and we are more focused than ever on our ambition of seeing three in four people survive their cancer by 2034, so please sponsor us now and help fund life-saving research. The money you donate will go towards increasing awareness of cancer, its prevention and treatment, and on working with the government and the NHS.

Whilst the student races will be within school hours; parents, carers, and members of the community are welcome on site from 3.30pm to visit the stalls that are being run by students and teachers as part of the QEGS community day.

Stalls will include sponge the teacher, tombola, face painting and cake sales – as well as many more.

Some of the stalls will be raising money for their specific council departments, with hope to expand on the positive and welcoming educational environment around the sixth form centre.

However, the majority of the money raised on the day will go straight to Cancer Research UK.

A public 5km race will then be held at 4pm, for just £1 entry. The race will take place around the QEGS playing fields and the park, finishing at the pavilion.

We would love to see as many parents, carers or members of the community running in pink or blue – the wackier the accessories the better!

If you wish to donate to our Cancer Research fundraising page, then please contact 6davisp@queenelizabeths.derbyshire.sch.uk or fountains@queenelizabeths.derbyshire. sch.uk.

We will be able to provide you with sponsorship forms, the online details to the page itself, or we can even donate money on your behalf.

We would really appreciate your support through donating, running the Race For Life or attending the QEGS community day.
