A CIDER producer which creates a range of craft drinks from the area’s apples has won a major award at a prestigious brewing industry event.

Kniveton Cider Company’s “Scorchio!” has been named Silver Medal winner in the Modern Cider (3.0% – 8.5% abv) Dry category at the International Brewing and Cider Awards.

A total of 138 medal and trophy winners were announced at the historic international beer and cider competition, which took place at the National Brewery Centre in Burtonon-trent.

Brewers and cider-makers from 24 countries received accolades at the event, which is dubbed “The Oscars of the brewing and cider world”.

Kniveton Cider Company, which already has a string of awards under its belt, saw its Scorchio cider, which was created using apples grown in the record summer of 2018, wowing judges, who were plucked from a selection of industry experts who blind tasted each tipple.

Ruth Evans MBE, director of the

International Brewing & Cider Awards, said: “It’s been an honour to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary beers and ciders that both brewers and cider-makers have worked so hard to produce during what has been such a difficult 18 months for the industry.

“Despite being forced to postpone the awards due to the pandemic, our brewing and cider community across the globe rallied together and continued to produce outstanding and innovative produce, and it’s this determination and success that’s worth celebrating. We’d like to congratulate Kniveton Cider Company on their achievements at this year’s awards, and we’re thrilled to be able to provide them with the recognition they so truly deserve.”
