Liam looks up for new loan signings

- DERBY COUNTY

LIAM Rosenior says he is in the market for Premier League loan signings and is prepared to wait for them.

The Rams’ interim boss has already made 11 signings in a hectic three-week period after Clowes Developments completed their takeover on July 1.

But there is still a need to add strength in depth to the squad which only had five players under contract at the start of the month.

Having completed the bulk of his business, Rosenior says he is now turning his attention to talent in the top flight who are in first-team squads with their respective clubs.

“When you are looking for quality players, I don’t want to rush,” he said. “I want players who are right for the group. I want to take my time and make sure, come January/ February we are in the right shape. Sometimes with the better players, you have to wait a little bit longer in terms of loans especially.

“We are in the loan market for players who are in first-team squads in the Premier League. I want to wait for them. We will give them an opportunity to come and if they do I will be absolutely delighted with the business we’ve done.”

Meanwhile, Rosenior believes his side more than matched Leicester City for “long spells” in Saturday’s preseason friendly, which they lost 3-1.

“They’re not just Premier League opposition but top six Premier League opposition,” said Rosenior.

“They brought a really strong team but I was delighted because for long spells we more than matched them. We had to be disciplined and organised without the ball. I knew that before the game and from a fitness point of view because they are a good possession team we were going to have to work really, really, hard.

“It was great for our fitness and I was delighted up to 1-1 to get the goal but then I had to look at the bigger picture and make changes. It’s not about winning, pre-season is not about that, it’s about making sure we are fit and ready.”
